「Do fine sediment affect the distribution of hyporheic zone invertebrate community? 」
【概要】 The hyporheic zone is the region of sediment and porous space beneath and alongside a stream bed, where there is mixing of shallow groundwater and surface water. The hyporheic zone plays an important role in ecosystem integrity and health of river ecosystem. It processes organic matter, tranform nutrients, attenuate the negative effects of pollutants, and provide habitat for invertebrates. Sediment is among the key environemntal factors in hyporheic zone because it strongly affects physico-chemical environment of hyporheic zone. Hyporheic colmation process and water quality degradation may strongly affect hyporheic community structure and function. My project examines the relationship between invertebrate community and fine sediment in hyporheic zone. Findings will help us manage river much better.I’m very interested to know whether and how much fine sediment affect hyporheic invertebrate community.
