「A linkage between the underground and the land: Dispersal of amphibiotic insects from a gravel-bed river」
【概要】 I am working on the amphibiotic insects that live in the hyporheic zone of the river as larvae and live on land as adults. This study is conducting in a 4th-order gravel-bed river which is situated in the south-eastern part of Hokkaido in Japan. The uniqueness of this study is to find out how far the amphibiotic insects can travel on land after being adults and how much aquatic resources (as dry biomass, carbon, and nitrogen) they can bring with them. Our research team is trying to find out which directional movements (lateral movement – away from the river or toward the river and longitudinal movement – upstream or downstream of the river) of the amphibiotic insects would be important in the ecosystem management perspective.
